by Beth Brandon, Aspen Daily News Columnist Saturday, July 19, 2008 Who started this fist-bump business? It’s a fist-pound, people. For once and for all, I’d like to call it by its proper name, fist pound. It’s not a fist bump, contrary to whatever white news anchor named it.
I like to think of it as a sign of youth. It’s kind of like slang. Someone, somewhere, decided that instead of giving his friend the old high-five, they’d switch it up and pound fists, instead. Full Story »
by Beth Brandon, Aspen Daily News Columnist Saturday, July 12, 2008 It’s that time of year again: It’s high time we move out of the way to make room for some attitudes less friendly than most.

I know that this valley loves music. There are free concerts and venues a plenty to hear all sorts of music. I’m a product of greater metropolitan area radio stations though. I grew up with a station for every type of music imaginable and at times I miss that. Full Story »
by Beth Brandon, Aspen Daily News Columnist Saturday, June 21, 2008 Ever go “fiking” with your significant other? Or maybe you went “fiing” or “folfing,” even. If you haven’t already figured it out, it’s what I like to call fighting while hiking, or biking or skiing or — you get the point. What is it about the fresh air and physical activity that makes for a good old-fashioned argument?
The Aspen Skiing Co. suggests why you should take lessons from them. I think it’s something like, “we’ve saved more relationships by doing the instructing.” I get it. When learning a new sport, sometimes the last person you want to take instruction from is someone with whom you share a sizable amount of time, and/or a bed. Full Story »
