Still Winter

Yet another layer of fresh snow was piled onto the massive snowpack on top of Aspen Mountain this morning. The mountain was starkly empty as most of the town's energy was likely over at the Aspen Highlands Powder Posse, which the patrol called to get some assistance in stablizing the snowpack at the ski area, which closed last weekend and will re-open for the weekends of April 20 and 27. The posse members are no doubt reveling in deep soft snow with a handful of other fun-loving locals. Anyone not there will likely be regaled with tales of sickness and how it will be a day to remember for all time - a capper to an amazing season that won't end. Snow is falling again in Aspen at noon in a relentless pattern that is driving some locals to distraction, to Mexico or to further heights of skiing and riding joy.
