Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities is looking for artists for its November gallery show to honor Dia de los Muertos, or The Day of the Dead. Artists are invited to provide imaginative renditions of altar shrines, which should reflect their sentiments about the festival and tradition. All pieces should be less than 2.5 square feet, due to limited gallery space. Opening night is Nov. 7 at the CCAH Gallery on 645 Main Street in Carbondale. 963-1680.

Aspen Community Theatre is looking for volunteers to join the backstage crew for the upcoming musical “Chicago.” Positions are available for assistant stage managers, the deck crew, the fly rail, sound, and lights. This will involve evening and weekend work through Nov. 16. 379-8881.

Scholastic Book Fair hosted by Aspen Middle School. Fair offers books for all ages. All proceeds will go to support the middle school library and drama program. 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. daily in Aspen Middle School Library.

“Temple of the Warriors” presented by Colorado Mountain College Gallery. Exhibit includes artifacts, photographs and historical documents from a 1920’s expedition to Chichen Itza in the Yucatan Peninsula to unearth an ancient Mayan temple. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the gallery in Glenwood Springs. First Wednesdays senior activities offered by the Carbondale Recreation Department. The first Wednesday of every month the Carbondale Recreation Department will pick up seniors throughout the community as well as Crystal Meadow for a day of running errands or doing shopping in Carbondale or Glenwood from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost: $4. Write Now! presented by the Aspen Writers' Foundation offers writers the chance to develop new techniques to jump-start their writing with fun, noncritiqued sessions led by local writers. Participants are asked to bring pen and paper for group exercises that are the centerpiece of the program. Attendees may share work they develop in the meeting.
