A fine seasonal whine

Okay, we’re coming to terms. Kind of. The season has ended. The Aspen Mountain employee party was yesterday, which afforded some folks another bite at the apple. Today though, the gondola is still turning... but it is for employees to start breaking down the mountain for the season and preparing the mountain for spring run off.
Oh, what a cruel spectacle that turning bullwheel is. All we can do is look toward this weekend’s skiing and riding at Aspen Highlands, which begins mid-morning on Saturday.
Plenty of cheap lodging available this weekend in town, by the way, for anyone looking to come up and take a few laps in Highland Bowl where it remains deep winter.
After a nice couple of spring days we’ve returned to quasi-winter conditions this morning. Snow showers are likely today, along with some thunder. Ironically, local firefighters are calling for snow to help with the first brush fire of the season which erupted near Carbondale in yesterday afternoon's strong winds.
There is a chance of one to two inches of snow falling today and perhaps another inch tonight.
By Friday, however, we’re looking at sunny skies and a balmy high of 56 degrees and 60 degrees on Saturday.
If you’re contemplating heading west this weekend to the desert town that shall not be named, you can expect highs near 75 and sunshine (how pleasant does that sound?).
The last couple of hot days have also kicked up the local rivers a bit. The Roaring Fork at Glenwood is now up to 1,000 cfs, which is plenty of water for the Cemetery run and Westwater is now humming at 7,100 cfs. And climbing.
