Another chilly day in Aspen’s extended winter. While there was no snow falling at noon today, there was a cold gray sky hovering over the nearly empty town. If you like quiet mountain towns, you’re in luck this weekend, but watch out for the parking patrollers, who continue to show no mercy on broke locals.
A steely day in the high country.
Snow showers are still in the forecast with another inch possible today. Saturday should be mostly sunny and brisk with a high of 51 degrees. On Sunday, temperatures might, just might, reach 60 degrees.
Locals are scattering for the weekend. Some are off to Snowbird for more laps. Others are heading for the Dolores River which actually has water in it and should through the month of May.
Others are making the best of it and hiking up local hills. One scout this morning said FIS on Aspen Mountain was pretty much skiing like mid-winter snow, which seems plausible given that Little Nell still has more snow on it than it has the past few years at the end of March.
Another option is lurk down to West Glenwood and check out the new Glenwood Springs kayak park and the Glenwood Kayak gear swap and sale on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Colorado River is now up to 5,300 cfs through West Glenwood and up to a bone-rattling 16,100 cfs in Westwater. The lower Fork is up to 1,810 which is a fun level for Cemetery. Yes, the water is upon us…
