Put parking to a vote

Editor:

Let’s see: We’re going to plan our future parking program fashioned after London and Stockholm. That’s understandable and feasible, as London has a population of 7.6 million and Stockholm 800,000 — very similar (counting visitors) to Aspen.

From our perspective as lodge managers within three blocks of Aspen’s downtown core, our guests who might arrive late at night could possibly be tagged, as the parking parameters would not have been on our Web site, or residential meters visible at night.

We don’t know how many cities or towns have parking meters located in the residential section, but doubt there are many.

Finally, forcing locals and visitors to spend $7 for a day pass is not going to drive them toward busing. Rather, it will drive them away from Aspen.

This plan should be put to a vote by the citizens of Aspen.
