Quote was disappointing

Editor:

I was very disappointed in the choice of “highlighted” quote in the article about River Meadows tree cutting.

David Frey wrote a good article, and I realize he needed to show different sides of the issue, but why did it end with “This valley’s full of whiners and complainers.”?

Let me come in and cut down all the trees in your yard, take away your privacy, your shade. How would you feel? Thrilled? I don’t think so.

Many of the residents spent a lot of time and money on their yards. These people live in small spaces and use their yards as an outside living space. The trees were not diseased, they were healthy. Everything I have ever read also says that trees and their roots help hold the soil down; why are they cutting the trees anyway?  So the ground underneath the homes will wash away?

Someone please give some answers to these questions, and be a little more sympathetic to the residents.
