Embrace change

Editor:

Another note on discretion, as it seems to happen with the English language as well as societal norms:  Evolution is a constant.

What was offensive 100 years ago is now part of our regular speech and/or daily lives. What was perceived as lewd or as actions of questionable worth to the generation before us (our parents), was our way of expressing the way we felt.

I’m not saying that we all need to start swearing and cussing at each other, but be realistic. It’s not so much the words one uses, but the intended meaning behind those words. So when you hear a little kid say something “sucks,” it’s because it probably does. These are the words this generation chooses to use.

Embrace the changes of a younger generation. I want to thank the Aspen Daily News for using language that reflects a more realistic view of our society.
