Editor’s Pick: One Last Kiss

Although the draft no longer exists, teenage
love, celebrity worshipping and vicious gossip circles are still
prevalent. And it’s those themes combined with a stellar song lineup
that made “Bye Bye Birdie” a Tony Award-winner, and even more of a
reason for valleywide students to bring it back to life onstage at the
Wheeler Opera House from Friday, May 9 through Sunday, May 11. Catch
superstar Conrad Birdie as he gives off one last kiss on “The Ed
Sullivan Show” before heading off to basic training after being
drafted, and the comedy that ensues because of it. Loosely based on
Elvis Presley’s draft into the army during the late ‘50s, it’s a
timeless Broadway classic brought back by Gottlieb Bartley’s Young
People Productions. Shows are at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with 2
p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday, and tickets are $15 and $20. For
