Snow on the hammock

We thought it would be okay to put the hammock up in the backyard this weekend after Friday's snow storm. It was fairly nice, after all. But noooo.

The winter that won't leave has brought snowshowers once again to town and we're expecting one to three inches today with a high of 43.

Tonight will be below freezing in Aspen with a low of 27 degrees and there is still plenty of snow laying in on the hills.

It has been a stubborn spring/winter thing but skiers are still getting out and hiking and up enjoying their turns. We had one trip report from last Friday of a jaunt up to Highland Peak and turns through winter snow. And there is still a fleet of private snowmobiles parked at the base of Little Nell that skiers are using to access the mid-country snowfields.

Then Friday night, late, the snow came in hard and made driving on Highway 82 a surrealistic exercise of snowglobe-style driving.

There are upsides to the stubborn spring. The skiing is good. The grass is really green. The rivers are flowing high, with the Fork at 2190 cfs at Glenwood Springs and the Colorado at a very big 18,900 cfs at the Utah state line.

Independence Pass is scheduled to open in three weeks but who knows?
