If you love Pablo Neruda and Sergei Prokofiev, Friday’s chamber symphony program is for you.
Full of poetry that inspired composer Peter Lieberson to write an award-winning song cycle, Kelley O’Connor and David Zinman will bring further inspiration to these songs.
Anytime pianist Yefim Bronfman performs is newsworthy, and he will close the chamber symphony program with the Third Piano Concerto of Sergei Prokofiev. Guaranteed to bring down the house, Bronfman, Prokofiev, Zinman and the Aspen Chamber Symphony is not only a must-hear event, it will be a talked-about-for-years-to-come event.
The Ying Quartet headline our Saturday night recital with what they call a “dim sum” program of short works for string quartet by Chinese composers that they have commissioned. This Grammy award winning quartet make their fourth visit to Aspen. They will beguile us with the stories of these works and their committed performances.
Sunday’s Festival Orchestra program continues our summer’s theme of storytelling. Aaron Copland’s ballet composition for Martha Graham makes the most of the “Billy the Kid” legend; the brilliant Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg will enliven the afternoon with her performance of Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires; and the Tchaikovsky Symphony caps the afternoon, with Russian folk tunes masterfully rendered by the master tunesmith.
So much music to feed our souls — Enjoy!
