Wilma Virginia (Morford) Funk died on Dec. 31, 2008.

Virginia was born to James Ellis Morford and Henrietta Holderby in Palisade on Jan. 25, 1920. The family moved to Florida in 1923 and returned in 1929 where Virginia grew up on the family orchards in Palisade. She graduated from Palisade High School in 1938. She attended Mesa College and married Elmer Funk on May 11, 1941. 

Virginia was a homemaker until her youngest daughter began school. Peach seasons, she packed peaches at United Fruit Growers. She then started working for Montgomery Ward until the family moved to Aspen in 1965. In Aspen, Virginia worked for The Aspen Times as the subscription clerk until her retirement.

Virginia loved embroidery, puzzles and reading. When the children were young, she sewed costumes for their dance recitals, canned fruit, and loved baking. The neighbor children loved to come “help.” Virginia loved tending the beautiful roses in the family garden. Her grandchildren remember that she always listened and was interested in what they wanted to tell her. 

Virginia is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (David) John of Toledo, Iowa, Kay (Ron) Kuschel of Grand Rapids, Minn.,  Jeanne (Jerry) Flockhart of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Elizabeth Johnson of Aspen; sister, Margaret Glenn of Port Isabel, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death earlier in 2008. They were married for 66 years.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Snell-McLean Funeral Home in Palisade with burial at Memorial Gardens.
