Statements have been made that there would be a loss of up to 30 percent of the plaza open space as a consequence of the library’s addition. These statements are not accurate. Open space lost by the library’s addition footprint of 5,370 square feet will be offset by the creation of new square footage at the north edge of Galena Plaza (4,520 square feet), where there is now an overlook onto the parking garage below. When these parking spaces are covered as part of the Galena Plaza roof repair, the net loss of usable plaza square footage will be less than 3 percent of the whole plaza.

The civic porch at the interface of the plaza and library addition will offer a public WI-FI zone that is accessible 24/7.

The after-hours community meeting room at the edge of the plaza will accommodate public meetings, musical performances and theater, enlivening our evening civic landscape in the process.
