Child’s housing idea won’t fly

Editor:

Steve Child’s recent clarification of his housing approach represents another distinct difference in how we think. He said, “Buying already existing multi-family housing is a good second option, since this is the type of housing with the biggest demand. The county should work with realtors to try and find appropriate buildings as they become available.”

This would quickly deplete the monies available as it would require a massive subsidy to flip them to employees. Buying million-dollar condos and reselling them at deeply discounted rates to employees is quite simply a very bad idea. It is also unrealistic to think that such a building would become available to even attempt to buy.

I would not consider this approach in utilizing the dollars available to the county. I am confident to say that this is a path that would have little or no support from our voters.
