Several homes and vehicles in Carbondale were broken into on Tuesday night, according to police.

At about 6 p.m., a home on Euclid Avenue was broken into. The resident came home to find two burglars in the home, one brandishing a weapon. Both suspects fled the scene and there were no injuries. About 6:45 p.m., a home on Vito’s Way was broken into and items were taken. A third home in the area was attempted to be broken into in the same time frame, according to Carbondale Police Chief Gene Schilling.

About 7 p.m., a vehicle on North 8th Street was also broken into. The vehicle’s owner interrupted the burglary and the suspects fled, but not before taking some items, according to police.

The victims all described two Hispanic males in dark colored hoodie sweatshirts as the suspects in the break-ins. Both males are described as 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, one with an average build and the second with a slightly larger than average build.

Two unlocked vehicles, one on Euclid Avenue and another in the Lincoln Avenue area, were broken into, though no items were taken.  Later that night, a vehicle was stolen from Cleveland Place, which was recovered in Glenwood Springs the following morning.

Overnight on Monday, a vehicle was stolen from the 100 block of North 8th Street. That vehicle has not been recovered.

The homes and vehicles that were broken into were left unlocked, and one of the stolen vehicles had the keys left in it, according to police.

Anyone with information on any of the break-ins or stolen vehicles is asked to call the Carbondale Police Department at 963-2662.

Any suspicious activity should be reported to 911 immediately.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said it will keep Independence Pass open until at least Friday at 1 p.m., based on a forecast of snow beginning in the late afternoon.

However, if weather is agreeable, the pass could remain open a bit longer, according to CDOT.

The race for the second seat on Snowmass Village Town Council is too close to call. Chris Jacobson had the lead on Tuesday night by four votes, with 503 votes. Darryl Grob had 499 and Stan Stokes received 471 votes.

Election officials will spend the next few days reviewing 64 provisional ballots that have yet to be counted.

Markey Butler easily outdistanced the three other candidates. Butler garnered 669 votes, or 31 percent of the 1,921 total ballots cast.
