Basalt police on Thursday arrested two suspects accused of robbing a woman who was walking home from a night out last week.
The woman and her husband were riding their bikes home from downtown Basalt shortly before midnight on Nov. 2 when they were approached by two men, who allegedly stole the woman’s purse. The crime occurred near the Basalt park and ride lot on the south side of Highway 82.
Contrary to prior reports, the woman’s bike was not stolen. It was left in the middle of the road and recovered later.
Using eyewitness accounts, police arrested Erick Gomez, 18, and a juvenile, both of Basalt. Witnesses provided descriptions of the suspects, and police pieced together the identifications, said Sgt. Stu Curry.
The purse has not been recovered, Curry said.
Both suspects face robbery and theft charges.
“We’re glad people were able to come forward and do the right thing,” Curry said. If anyone has any other information about the crime, they are encouraged to call Basalt police at 927-4316.
