Fruit trees in the backcountry?

Editor:

It’s no secret our bear problem was exacerbated by homeowners planting
fruit trees all over the city. In many cases, the trees were given away on Arbor
Day or planted just for the beauty of the blossoms and the opportunity to gather fruit for pies and such. I don’t blame the city or residents, as many of these trees were planted before we realized how bad the problem was, or how bad it could get.

Anyway, what if we plant a lot of fruit trees up the hills? The trees would
be a renewable source of natural food for the bears, and the trees should
multiply on their own. Although I realize this will not completely solve the
problem, I can’t see any negatives to this plan, and once the bears figure out what’s what it should help.

Just a thought.
