The purpose of providing first responders preference in obtaining county-owned units is to increase the health and safety of the community, not to give certain people a better chance at getting public housing. If Jack Hatfield really believes that, in his words, “Where I come from all employees are equal,” the next time there’s a fire in downtown Aspen at 4 a.m. and Highway 82 is closed during a blizzard then we can send folks from the county finance department to fight it.
