Sheldon Fingerman recently wrote a letter bringing up the idea of planting fruit trees outside of town for bears. I’ve been working on this idea for a couple of months — and not just native serviceberry and chokecherries, but to also plant native thimbleberry, wild rose and raspberries.
These are all great food sources for bears and if we plant them out of town on National Forest land, BLM land and large private parcels then the bears will have other options than town. We could provide nutritious wildlife food while re-vegetating with native plants.
I’d love to connect with anyone interested in this idea. Please email me at nell90@hotmail.com [1].
