(This letter was originally addressed to the mayor of Basalt and members of the town council.)
Editor:
I have known Roderick O’Connor for over 10 years in several capacities; from Aikido master and teacher to friend to police officer in both Aspen and Basalt. During this time I have seen Roderick embody the philosophies he teaches of peace, love, equality, dignity, and honor in every aspect of his life. He is one of the most fair, positive and ethical people I have had the privilege of getting to know. It is unfortunate that there currently is controversy in his professional life and since I have not been privy to any of the details I cannot comment on them directly, but from my experience with this kind, gentle and fair man over the last 10 years, I know he will weather the storm. I just am sorry that the town of Basalt has been and will be denied his wisdom and passionate caring during the resolution of this issue.
