“Locals are whiners.” That is how Mr. Jeff Hanle, the public relations director of Aspen Skiing Co., referred to the locals of the area in Monday’s newspaper when discussing our lack of snowfall in an article about the closure of the Gondola during the week.
Mr. Hanle, your job is public relations, and keeping good public relations is the key. Calling the locals whiners does not help when trying to maintain good public relations. That attitude transfers over to the clients that come here, which does nobody any good.
Perhaps maybe you should have put out something like this: “This Wednesday we are having a hot dog lunch for the locals that are supporting us during Mother Nature’s vacation.”
This would have locals thinking positive of you for the entire season. However, now for the entire season, locals’ opinion is that SkiCo believes they are all a bunch of whiners.
Think snow.
