Lawyer working pro bono

Editor:

I would like to clarify statements made in an article by Chad Abraham (“Defendants in monoxide case take the ‘Fifth’ in civil lawsuit,” Aspen Daily News, Nov. 26).

Gerry Goldstein provided pro bono legal services to Pitkin County and Mr. Brian Pawl because he felt strongly about the issue and was happy to handle the case in such capacity.

The $14,400 dollar figure quoted was for investigative services related to the case, not for Mr. Goldstein’s time.

Pitkin County is very grateful for Mr. Goldstein’s help in this matter.
