Finding the right glove has proven difficult for me since my hands are always cold. And if I have to take them off on the chairlift to answer a phone call, text or change my music, forget about it.
But the problem has been solved in the SoundTouch MsSlopescape glove created by Seirus, a California-based company that offers hundreds of different winter sports products.
The SoundTouch technology, patent pending, allows you to not have to take off your gloves ever because the connection passes from the fingertips, both the pointer and thumb, to the touchscreen.
It works brilliantly, and I am convinced the gloves would perform even better if my dumb Droid phone responded better to the commands I give it. I cannot wait to get a new iPhone next month to see how much more flawlessly these gloves work.
What’s really surprising about these gloves is that even through full Thermolite insulation and a waterproof membrane, the operation of smartphones, digital music players, cameras and any other touchscreen gadgets can work.
The soft-shell gloves are 100 percent waterproof and breathable, so there is not a lot of sweating inside, thus my hands stay dry. The breathable barrier prevents water from penetrating while microscopic pores allow moisture vapor to escape, according to the company’s literature.
The form-fit, next-to-the-skin material does bunch up a bit and it can be difficult to jam my permanently deformed pinky finger into the slot, but I’ve noticed the more I wear them the more it packs down inside.
The gloves stretch quite a bit with their thin insulation, which is a nice feature for skiers who are looking for movement on powder days. But the most important quality for me is that they are warm. The SoundTouch is just icing on the cake.
And since I am a freak on the chairlift because of my fear of heights, it’s really nice to not have to take my gloves off and fuddle around. I need that extra hand to be able to cling onto the bar.
