I always enjoy reading Paul Menter, but I have to call him down on his last op-ed. First off, Paul shake yourself. Paul disagrees with John Elway and would rather Elway had kept Tim Tebow and not go the “Favrearian” way and bring in Peyton Manning. Seriously?
Okay, I admit that witnessing Tim Tebow in Orange and Blue was fun, but watching his throwing motion was like watching a slow train wreck. Elway was right in giving Mr. Tebow a ticket to New York. Tebow had a lot to do with advancing the Broncos to the playoffs in 2011, but there were 52 other athletes that helped. Tebow helped the Broncos get an identity, but he was not the only reason the Broncos won. The main reason is that the defense started to come together in game six of 2011, they always kept the team within striking distance of a win. That defense went on to build on their success in 2012.
Bringing Manning in was genius if you ask me. Even if he is damaged goods, he is still a premier quarterback in the NFL. Manning clearly raises all the ships in the harbor. Lets remember that 2012 was a great season for the Broncos, it just had a bad ending. Lets hope that Manning sticks around for a couple of more seasons, because he has a great team behind him. It’s nice to see that the Broncos are one of the premier teams in the NFL. It has been a long time since we could say that and we were not a top tier team under Mr. Tebow.
And lets remember another thing, Mr. Elway also brought in promising young quarterback Brock Osweiler. A 6-foot-7 stud from Arizona State who will take over for Mr. Manning when he decides to hang ‘em up. Timmy was definitely not the future, Brock clearly is and he gets to learn in the shadow of Manning.
Getting back to Mr. Tebow who is soon to be released by the Jets and has been rejected in his alma matter town of Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Jaguars new general manager has declared that the Jaguars have no interest in Timmy. I predict that no NFL team will sign Tebow and Timmy will have to play in the Canadian Football League. So sad.
I say that all Bronco fans should raise a glass to Mr. Elway. He has not only brought in Mr. Manning, but has had two terrific drafts and seems to recognize great talent for a reasonable price in free agency.
Remember 1996, we lost to Jacksonville in the playoffs at home and then we won two Superbowls in 1997 and 1998. Maybe, Mr. Elway knows something — I can only hope.
