Aspen High student chefs take third in statewide cooking competition in Denver
A culinary team of three Aspen High School students took third place in a statewide cooking competition on Friday in Denver.
The team from Aspen High’s Pro-Start program — comprised of juniors Sophia Stapleton, Gigi Mottier, Jennifer Coombe and Nicole Zell — also took the top prize last month in the Western Slope Pro-Start competition. They’ve been taught at Aspen High by Morgan Henschke and mentored by Cache Cache chef/co-owner Chris Lanter.
“I am super proud of them,” said Lanter. “They’ve worked super hard.”
The state competition pitted 21 Pro-Start teams from across Colorado against one another, in an “Iron Chef”-style competition where they made two appetizers, two entrees and two desserts. The girls won scholarship money toward culinary school at Johnson & Wales University in Denver.
Internships at Anderson Ranch
Summer internships at Anderson Ranch Arts Center are available and the deadline to apply is Friday.
Summer interns are exposed to ranch programs at all levels. Studio interns assist faculty and students in the studios, while administrative interns help with operations, exhibits and inner-workings of the ranch.
All participate in staging 140 workshops, an international lecture series, speaker programs and special events throughout the summer. Interns are typically practicing artists and are often art program undergraduate, graduate or recently graduated students looking to work in an artistic environment of like-minded peers.
While the deadline to apply for internships is March 8, applications will remain open until all positions are filled. Internships are available in ceramics, photography and digital media, painting and printmaking, sculpture, woodworking and furniture design, children’s art programs, marketing, guest services, audio visual, development, and facilities and grounds.
Applicants can visit www.andersonranch.org under “Employment” or call (970) 923-3181 for more information.
