I’m a little surprised the 20 mph speed limit actually passed (“Council backs 20 mph speed limit citywide,” Aspen Daily News, March 20). First, people will continue to use the West End as a detour off Main Street because, even at 15 mph, they are moving. Moving is always better than not moving.
Second, people continue to jaywalk and cross against red lights on Main Street all the time. I’m still trying figure out in what country a big, red neon hand means “walk.” And finally, could this be a ploy to bring more revenue into town with speeding tickets? Why not lower the speed limit to 5 mph and see if you can force everyone onto the bus?
