The Shining Stars just completed another fabulous week in Aspen. About 60 children with cancer or other life-threatening diseases were treated to a fun-filled week. They learned to ski and snowboard. The week was filled with many exciting activities. This gave the Shining Stars a chance to just be kids and forget about their illnesses for a while.
A big thank you to the following: Aspen Skiing Co. for providing lift tickets and rental equipment; ski patrol for the avalanche dogs’ rescue demo; the lifties for all the smiles and the help they gave the kids riding the chair for the first time; T-Lazy-7 for providing snowmobiling and a cookout; Aspen Elks Lodge for providing dinner and disco dancing; the Ultimate Taxi for unbelievable rides; Doc Eason and his magic show; Ron Tepper for his harmonica lessons; St. Regis for providing an unforgettable banquet dinner; Colorado Mountain Express for transportation to many events; the many lodges for providing rooms for the volunteer instructors; all the volunteers that helped with the arts and crafts night, and all the service clubs and many restaurants that provided meals. A special thanks to Chris and Mitch, at The Inn at Aspen, for letting us literally take over the hotel. The “Aspen buddies” were invaluable in all the help they provided, as were all the volunteer instructors.
The Aspen community and its people are to be commended for their outpouring of generosity to make the Shining Stars feel welcome. If I have overlooked any individual or organization, please know we are thankful for all your contributions.
