There are a couple of points I would like to make in response to Michelle Bryan’s letter (“Why not a rec center at Crown Mountain Park?” Aspen Daily News, March 26):
• I am one of those who voted not to have a rec center put in at Crown Mountain Park. I am a senior citizen with limited income. I would not choose to have my mill levy increased for a center at Crown Mountain. Other seniors might feel the same as I do. Nor would I wish to incur a monthly expense for a membership.
• There are ongoing classes for senior citizens provided by Eagle County each Tuesday and Thursday at the Community Center in El Jebel. These classes are followed by lunch. I volunteer on either of these days to help in the kitchen. The seniors are transported by Eagle County. The number attending varies between 18 to 34 people.
• Basalt Health and Fitness is a local fitness center. There are a number of senior citizens who use the facilities on a regular basis also. One of the certified trainers is a senior citizen.
• I am curious about one other item: Are you a senior citizen? You did not state that in your letter. From my experience I see that the seniors in Eagle County are receiving ongoing exercise and balanced meals through programs set up through Eagle County or they are choosing to use other fitness facilities available to them.
