Longtime local Soren Klanderud, 44, was found dead in his apartment at Truscott on Friday. The cause of death has not been determined pending an autopsy.
At about 1 p.m., the Aspen Police Department responded to a welfare check at the affordable housing complex located at the municipal golf course. Three officers responded to the call, which upon investigation became an unattended death, according to a press release issued on Friday evening. The Pitkin County Coroner’s Office arrived on scene shortly after and Klanderud was pronounced dead.
Klanderud was the son of former Aspen mayor Helen Klanderud. The Aspen Police Department in the press release expressed its condolences to the Klanderud family, who play an active role in many aspects of the community.
