I have to respond to the letter from Michelle Bryan (“Why not a rec center at Crown Mountain Park?” Aspen Daily News, March 26) concerning the proposed rec center at Crown Mountain Park. I found the figures somewhat interesting as to how little it was going to cost the homeowners per $100,000 value of their homes.
But my first question for Michelle Bryan is why was there no mention of what the true costs are of the center to operate from month to month? You gave us all these figures on what the tax might be but that is all. Also, there was no mention of how many employees it is going to require to run the center, plus there will be insurance and benefits for the employees, not to mention the day to day operations.
I also heard through the grapevine that the proponents want not one, not two, but three indoor tennis courts. (Heated with a wood stove? Of course, probably not with natural gas.)
So my concern is that the figures that you put in your letter are just the startup costs for the new center. You also so said that a family of four could join for $72 a month? Where did you get these figures from?
As for me, I am not going to vote “no,” I am going to vote “hell no.” Thanks but no thanks.
