(This letter was originally addressed to Aspen Elks Lodge #224)
This season at AVSC has been a tremendous growing experience. The staff and coaches of AVSC have been so helpful and supportive of me. I could not ask for more caring and intelligent individuals. Through my frustration from debilitating injuries and hunger to ski, the AVSC staff offered assistance and advice to get me back on my feet again. I am so grateful to have been a part of a team with such supportive coaches and teammates.
The beginning of the season was such an amazing time, building endurance, strength and relationships with coaches and teammates. The breath taking views from the top of Tiehack and the surge of adrenaline at the sight of the end of the AVSC lift are ingrained in my memory. More than these memories, are the things I learned in the training. The coaches were avid in helping us improve and have a successful season. They offered their knowledge and experiences to facilitate our own success. The Nordic AVSC team was a lot like a family to me, where the coaches, like parents were concerned about our well-being and genuinely cared about our future. Everyone was so compassionate and tightly knit that I never wanted the season to end. To my dismay, the morning of the first snowfall, I woke up with severe pain in my foot, which led to months of physical therapy and rest. The coaches were so helpful and supportive; I would not have healed as fast as I would have otherwise.
I am so blessed to have been apart of the AVSC Nordic team. I would not have been able to do it without the assistance of a scholarship from Aspen Elks Lodge #224. With this scholarship, I have taken away so much. The things I have learned and people I have met will help me in my life to come. The Elks of Aspen have once again brought amazing opportunities to my life. I am so inspired by their selflessness that they display so often. The Elks Lodge of Aspen is truly a miracle.
