The Aspen Police Department is hosting a trivia night today, of which half the proceeds will go to RESPONSE to recognize Sexual Assault Month.
T he event will take place at 5:30 p.m. at 520 Grill on East Cooper Avenue. Teams of up to six people can play and will pay $5 a person. Trivia will start at 6:30 p.m.
Each year, the month of April is designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in the United States, with the goal to raise public awareness about sexual violence, and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence. During the month, organizations across Colorado and the nation will join together to promote greater public awareness about sexual assault.
RESPONSE has been providing assistance for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Roaring Fork Valley since 1983.
Half of the money collected from this event will benefit RESPONSE and the other half will be awarded to the winning team.
Calling artists for USA Pro Cycling Challenge race poster
As local cycling fans gear up to celebrate the third year that Aspen hosts the USA Pro Challenge cycling race, artists — professional, amateur and aspiring — are encouraged to let their creativity flow and submit a design for the official commemorative Aspen poster. Entries will be accepted until May 5, with the winners being announced on May 20.
Once the contest closes, a panel of Aspen locals will the select the Aspen winner from a pool of finalists, which will be printed as Aspen’s official 2013 UPC poster, available for purchase during the summer across Aspen and promoted on social media platforms.
Aspen and Snowmass are the only cities in the state to host two stages. Day one’s time trials will take place between Aspen and Snowmass, and day two begins in downtown Aspen before racers head out towards Independence Pass to Breckenridge. Aspen also is home to several elite racers including Tejay Van Garderen, who came in second in last year’s race. Artists are encouraged to highlight Aspen’s dramatic natural beauty, cycling terrain and outdoor-adventure culture.
The winner of the poster contest will receive a pair of VIP passes to the hospitality tent at the race finish, as well as recognition and exposure for his or her artwork.
All entries must be submitted via email to: firstname.lastname@example.org . This requires either that the artwork be in digital media format or that a digital photograph of the artwork in 11X17 or 18X14 size format. This is a skill-based contest and chance plays no part in the determination of winners. There is no fee to enter and no purchase is required. Referred to as “America’s Race,” the third annual USA Pro Challenge will take place Aug. 19-25, and travel through 12 host cities from Aspen to Denver. More than 1 million spectators are expected to once again line the route to see if Christian Vande Velde will defend his title as reigning champion, while millions more around the world watch the race live on television and online through the Tour Tracker.
