Most of us in the Roaring Fork Valley have become accustomed to the buzz surrounding the controversy regarding the Thompson Divide. However, it is vital that we as a community continue the discussion and continue educating our friends and neighbors about the potential impacts that will likely be felt if the proposed gas drilling activity were to ensue.
The Thompson Divide remains as an incredible asset to the entire valley, and especially to the immediate community of Glenwood Springs. Due to both its proximity and road access, Glenwood would be the town to feel the greatest amount of impact due to the nature of extractive, industrial practices.
For this reason, it is my pleasure to announce that a community barbecue on behalf of the Thompson Divide will be taking place at Two Rivers Park on July 13 from 4-7 p.m. This will be a great opportunity to get outside with friends and family for free live music and a barbecue by the river. It also will provide us with the chance to ask questions, and educate ourselves and others about an issue that is so important to the fiber of our community. I strongly encourage everyone from all backgrounds and walks of life to come out and celebrate our common interest in the Thompson Divide.
