I find it hilarious that Beltway journalists like Eugene Robinson point out government’s “lack of spine on Egypt” when side-stepping what history has taught is actually going on.
Where is journalism’s spine when everyone is an apologist for one agenda or another?
Robinson contends Obama should speak the truth and cut off military aid, when the truth of the matter is we’re in the business of insuring armament markets remain open — just not for our enemy in this billion-dollar business of warfare.
It is what we do. It is what we’ve always done. We’ve never in our history actually exported democracy. We’ve given it reams of lip service but in fact have advanced our own interest over any call for democracy via instigating coups, propping up dictators, and destabilizing governments in where the possibility of democracy threatens the free flow of armament profits.
It is what we do best. It is what the CIA, and the middle management of the White House and Congress have always promoted. I’d venture Obama is just glad he doesn’t have to role out his drones. Saving fuel. Giving the administration a better carbon footprint by carrying business out the old fashioned way.
It all makes me wonder if Beltway journalists were deprived of those coloring books where you connect the dots so they can’t put one and two together,to get a picture, so they only got the ones with the pictures already drawn in. Because they can color within the lines may be why they are where they are today.
Then of course, I’d like to believe our founding fathers created freedom of the press knowing it’s 98 percent propaganda, and at least without the state’s overriding influence some reality would leak through their forming government too much under Hamilton’s edict as something to protect the opulent from the masses. Something we are again seeing orchestrated in Egypt.
It is something the opulent must begin to consider. For like the Dutch concerning slavery, the riches compromising our ideals can be justified by the other’s view of the concept bandied about. But will it last?
