On Monday, Jan. 27, Richard Blanco visited the Carbondale Community School and spoke to the students about poetry, the power of the written word and how we all have stories that we carry inside us. He is a remarkable individual, and he was so warm and engaging with our students. He read several of his poems, including “Crayons for Elena,” “Looking for the Gulf Motel,” and an excerpt from his inaugural poem, “One Today.” His visit was a remarkable opportunity for our students to hear and engage with a writer of extraordinary talent. I want to thank the Aspen Writer’s Foundation (Program Manager, Jamie Kravitz, and Creative Director, Adrienne Brodeur) and Julie Comins Pickrell for arranging this visit to CCS.
