Aspen Daily News Staff Report

Erik Skarvan
Owner, Sun Dog Athletics and Producer, The Local’s Show on Grassroots TV12

Family: Father, Tony; two brothers; Jeff and Brian and two dogs; Sun Dog and Racer.

Hometown/Childhood: Whitefish Bay, Wis.

Hobbies:
Writing, local political activism and brewing beer (in that order).

Role Models:
Mom and Dad, Klaus Obermeyer and Lance Armstrong.

Motto: “PMA: Positive Mental Attitude!”

First Job: I had an early morning newspaper route when I was 10 years old. I worked illegally as a restaurant dishwasher at age 14.

Career Highlight: Mountain biking Sunnyside, my favorite trail, with Lance shortly after winning his 4th Tour title. That was awesome.

Biggest Challenge in Your Line of Business:  As the ski school director said (with Austrian accent) in the movie “Aspen Extreme,” “teaching is ze easy part.” Adapting to the changing market/clientele in Aspen has been interesting. Many want increased flexibility when it comes to making a solid commitment or reservation.
