BASALT OPENS THRIFT STORE

Aspen and Glenwood Springs both have one, and it's about time that Basalt got a thrift store too. On Saturday, July 12, the Basalt Thrift Store opened its doors as a self-sustaining, nonprofit business. The store uses its profit for operating costs only, and the rest is donated to sustainable agriculture and greenhouse learning centers. Its located at 180 Southside Drive. GLENWOOD ARTS CENTER GETS CASH

The Colorado Council on the Arts recently awarded the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts $25,000 for its Valley Kids Art exhibit. Valley Kids features work by students from pre-school to high school that live between Aspen and Rifle. It's an exhibit that's been held annually for 25 years. In addition, a $1,000 scholarship was given to Anne Tempest, a local graduate who is attending Grinnell University in Iowa this fall. During the 2009 Valley Kids exhibit, Aspen Music Festival and School will partner with the Center for the Arts to add a musical component.

3G SERVICE JOINS ROARING FORK VALLEY

AT&T announced the launch of the 3G network in the Roaring Fork Valley. The service offers broadband-like speed and access to voice, video and data applications through the iPhone 3G, which became available July 11. The service is now available in more than 280 major metropolitan areas.
