TELLURIDE: FEWER SUMMER ROOMS
With two hotels shutting down for renovation, and another operating at partial capacity, Telluride has 150 fewer rooms for visitors this summer. Both the Hotel Columbia and the New Sheridan Hotel will close until mid-November to undergo multi-million dollar renovations. The Telluride Tourism Board predicts that there will be at least 300 fewer people in town, and the lack of hotel rooms could also increase rates for those rooms that are still available, the Telluride Daily Planet reported.
PARK CITY: LODGING NUMBERS DOWN
Lodging numbers are down 14 percent during the first two weeks in March compared to the same time last year, the Park Record reported. March is the second busiest month for the Utah resort town, but they are seeing 2,000 fewer people per night, according to the Park City Chamber/Bureau. Because Easter is earlier this calendar year, officials say it could affect the April numbers.
VAIL: PEOPLE BACK IN LIONSHEAD
With the completion of the Arrabelle at Vail Square, a Rock Resorts-owned luxury hotel, Vail merchants are luring people back into the Lionshead area with special events. The Lionshead Merchants Association recently received a grant from Vail's Commission for special events to host jazz, street fairs and live music in the previously vacant and under-construction part of town, the Vail Daily reported.
