Missouri Heights cat crisis

This is a very public letter because maybe, just maybe, extreme community pressure might just be the last possibility for getting you to do something about the (Manx) cat factory you have going at your property on Fender Lane on Missouri Heights.

Everyone I have ever discussed the issue with has admitted that yes, we all just tiptoe around the possibility of confronting you. I stopped by your house a few years ago to tell you about a cat that had been hit in front of your place and all you did was laugh and say, “There are lots of cats around here.” I have personally picked up multiple kittens lying on nearby roads and hay fields; helped nurse diseased, starving and emaciated Manx and Manx mixes; and had the cats end up on my doorstep begging for attention and desperate for food. Most have ended up with a friend or in a shelter.

In one case, neighborhood kids found one of your Manx mixes and its eyes were green with pus and literally missing due to infection, according to the vet they visited. These kids were heartbroken. That story ends with one of the women working at Colorado Animal Rescue adopting the little blind gal even though she already had too many rescued animals. My best friend had to adopt one of these cats because I made her. This little guy is now the center of her family — he is so grateful. Now I have another one on my doorstep and I’m afraid I am out of friends able to adopt cats. Not to mention that I am sick and tired of dealing with this horrible situation you have created.

Additionally, I have dragged two dead cats — vehicle fatalities — off the road right in front of your house. One cat I put just at the entry to your driveway in the middle of the driveway. That dead cat sat there for several days as I drove back and forth to work — unbelievable. A woman in Carbondale that picks up stray cats and gets them spayed or neutered and then releases them is, let’s just say, extremely animated and emotional when she speaks of you. All around you are people who are dismayed and who continually have to deal with this problem that you are putting on all of your neighbors.

We all know about your multitudes, but we have been desperately hoping that one day you would finally take responsibility and get all the cats on your property to a vet and spayed and neutered without our nudging. Well, I am over that and asking: Please, take the burden off us. Can I remind you that this is the 21st century and we are a very wealthy, knowledgeable and compassionate community? Being kind and loving to all animals is a sign of a true civilized society.

If you need help with mice, a spayed or neutered cat will work just as well, and may I mention there are many other solutions. If you need help gathering up all your cats and making this happen, there are numerous entities and individuals who would be more than happy to help you with this most important endeavor. Just call any vet or animal shelter for these folks’ numbers. Please, your neighbors will be ecstatic.

less fortunate care about animals too

The fact that the previous persons comment to the cat issue on Missouri Heights says that because he cannot afford insurance for his 2 kids that he himself is exempt from compassion for animals and that the rest of us should therefore not have compassion for animals is frighteningly faulty logic. I hate to inform him, but it is not only the rich who care for the other creatures of the planet. While I am sure this person has every right to be angry about the uninsured status of his beloved children, there are plenty of other people who have the right, wealth or not, to be compassionate about animals and children. The two are not mutually exclusive. Plenty of poor people care for animals every minute of every day.

funny, but we are not all

funny, but we are not all wealthy in this valley!!! I can't afford insurance for my 2 kids, and you want to save some cat that is not spayed?????? weird stuff people get fixed on here where people with $ get bored so they have to save the world one animal at a time... save the humans!!!!!!! People
