Editor's Picks: Fun on the Fourth

America's birthday is a time for family, friends, food and fireworks. This weekend has an enormous schedule complete with all the ingredients. Here are our favorites:


Main Street parade takes place at noon and winds its way through downtown Aspen. Line the streets and sip lemonade while watching your neighbors and their organizations strut their stuff on Aspen's streets.

Independence Day concert at the Benedict Music Tent. Hosted by the Aspen Music Festival and School, listen to favorites such as the "Star Spangled Banner" and "Stars and Strips Forever." The concert is free at 4 p.m.

Fireworks over Aspen Mountain go off at 9:15 p.m. on Friday. Grab a seat anywhere in town where you can see the mountain, and enjoy the pyrotechnics.

On Saturday, July 5, Snowmass hosts a special concert with music legend Mavis Staples. The Grammy Award-nominee and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee brings her gospel roots with rhythym and blues soul to the Fanny Hill stage at 7:30 p.m. And, the show is followed by more fireworks.
