America's birthday is a time for family, friends, food and fireworks.
This weekend has an enormous schedule complete with all the
ingredients. Here are our favorites:
•
Main Street parade takes place at noon and winds its way through
downtown Aspen. Line the streets and sip lemonade while watching your
neighbors and their organizations strut their stuff on Aspen's streets.
•
Independence Day concert at the Benedict Music Tent. Hosted by the
Aspen Music Festival and School, listen to favorites such as the "Star
Spangled Banner" and "Stars and Strips Forever." The concert is free at
4 p.m.
•
Fireworks over Aspen Mountain go off at 9:15 p.m. on Friday. Grab a
seat anywhere in town where you can see the mountain, and enjoy the
pyrotechnics.
•
On Saturday, July 5, Snowmass hosts a special concert with music legend
Mavis Staples. The Grammy Award-nominee and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
inductee brings her gospel roots with rhythym and blues soul to the
Fanny Hill stage at 7:30 p.m. And, the show is followed by more
fireworks.
