Editor's Pick: AVSC Nordic
Bonfire Dinner

by Andrew Travers, Time Out Staff Writer
Always a highlight of mid-winter event calendar in Aspen, Saturday night’s Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club (AVSC) Nordic Bonfire Dinner combines skiing, eating, drinking and charitable giving — local passions all.

Along the Nordic track at the Aspen Golf Course, diners cross-country ski — or snowshoe or walk — along a 1.5 km candle-lit trail, sampling soups, appetizers, desserts and hot drinks at stations along the way.

The dinner benefits AVSC programs that help give all local kids the opportunity to ski or board.

Of course, this President’s Day weekend is packed with events, and poses some tough nightlife choices. Saturday night alone there’s Jerry Jeff Walker at the Wheeler and Z-Trip at Belly Up, along with Eliane Elias at the JAS Cafe, Nicolo Fonte’s world premiere at Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and the District Eight Honor Jazz Band at Roaring Fork High. Whatever your plans, though, fitting in at least one lap around the course at AVSC’s progressive dinner is a must.

This year’s dinner is Saturday, Feb. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Aspen Golf Course. Tickets are $25 for adults, $12 for kids and $50 for a family of four (and $5 more if you wait until Saturday night to purchase). Ski rentals are $10. More info and tickets at www.teamavsc.org
