Aspen Music Festival hosts events for families
The Aspen Music Festival will offer several free programs for families this summer.
A family concert at the Benedict Music Tent at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, will feature a performance of light orchestra music by the American Academy of Conducting Orchestra, recommended for ages 6 and up with an adult.
Also on July 8, children ages 2 to 5 are invited to dress up as their favorite character for the Peanut Butter & Jam Session at 6 p.m. in Harris Concert Hall.
On Thursdays beginning July 10, Aspen Music Festival and School students will play music to accompany story times at the Pitkin County Library. The Tunes and Tales story times will be held at 10:30 a.m. July 10 through August 14.
The festival will also hold improvisation and movement courses for children ages 1 through 7 and their parents. The Gotta Move! courses will take place at Classroom 1 on the AMFS campus and will feature short performances by students at the end of each session. They will be held Fridays at 10:30 a.m. July 11, 25 and August 1 and 15.
Every Saturday at 1 p.m. student brass ensembles will perform hourlong concerts at the top of Aspen Mountain. The series is free with the purchase of a gondola ticket.
Parents can also purchase AMFS Youth Season Passes for ages 17 or younger, which offers the benefits of a $975 adult full season pass at a 93 percent discount. Individual children’s tickets cost $5.

Pitkin County to hold events for Noxious Weed Intolerance Day
Pitkin County will hold Noxious Weed Intolerance Day on July 12 as part of the statewide Pulling 4 Colorado program during National Noxious Weed Awareness Week.
Each municipality will hold a weed tour and community weed pull from 10 a.m. to noon. Noxious weeds are invasive plants that take about 5,000 acres of native habitat each day on Western public lands.
In Aspen, residents will meet in the city parks building; in Snowmass Village, they will meet in the rodeo lot.
Refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the event, and all in attendance will receive a copy of Noxious Weeds of Colorado, a T-shirt, and a 2009 Colorado Noxious Weed calendar.
