Independence ghost town on TV
The ghost town of Independence will be the featured site on “Colorado and Company,” a Colorado-themed program on Denver’s Channel 9 airing Friday from 10-11 a.m.
The program will feature a number of historic photographs from the Aspen Historical Society’s archives, information for people visiting the ghost town and a live in-studio interview with AHS communications director Tom Egan.
Anna Scott, archivist for the historical society, was the author of the request that resulted in Independence being selected as one of only eight sites to be featured in this year’s series.

Update on Carbondale bridge work
The eastbound (upvalley) right-turn deceleration lane onto Highway 133 from Highway 82 at the entrance to Carbondale will remain closed full time as work continues on the bridge. Upvalley Highway 82 commuters should anticipate weekday 10- to 15-minute delays at that intersection during peak periods through September, when the project is supposed to be complete. Delays during non-peak periods of travel are typically less than five minutes.
Impacted motorists downvalley of this area are advised to use CR 154 and CR 109 (Westbank and Hardwick Bridge roads) to access Carbondale from Highway 82. Upvalley motorists should use CR 100 (Catherine Store Road).
Colorado Department of Transportation contractor SEMA Construction is currently reconstructing the existing bridge deck (reinforced concrete with an asphalt overlay) and tying the two structures together with a raised median. This will be followed by installing drainage improvements and reconstructing the bridge approaches on the west side of the bridge.
The project is valued at $4.64 million.
Snowmass antique event canceled
The Snowmass Antiques Fair that was scheduled for July 20-22 in Snowmass Village has been canceled.
Snowmass has a long history of hosting antique fairs as part of its summer event lineup, although the festival took a four-year hiatus from the town earlier this decade. The event was most recently run by MC Presents of Boulder, which pulled out of this year’s festival at the eleventh hour after all the marketing collateral for the town’s summer calendar were already printed, according to Snowmass Village PR Director Allison Johnson.
Aspen Highlands hosted an antiques and fine arts fair last weekend, and the sixth annual Downtown Aspen Arts Festival takes place this weekend in Wagner Park.
