Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers hosting clean-up day on Hunter Creek Trail
Close to 80 volunteers are needed for a Hunter Creek Trail clean-up project on Saturday, July 26.
The RFOV and the Pitkin County Open Space and Trails program will perform some needed maintenance from the Aspen trailhead up to the Benedict Bridge.
Su Casa restaurant in Aspen will provide the post-project dinner and also tools, materials and crew leaders for this project.
This will be the second time RFOV has worked on this section of the Hunter Creek Trail since their inception in 1995. While the most recent Aspen volunteer day at Maroon Lake brought out 33 volunteers, this project will call for close to 80 volunteers.
Tasks include working on rock walls, rebuilding a bridge over the Salvation Ditch, installing stone steps, re-decking bridges and a boardwalk.

Fourmile Road in White River National Forest closed for culvert installation
The White River National Forest began installing a large culvert, a conduit that allows water to pass under the road, on Fourmile Road on Monday, July 21.
Construction will continue until Friday, July 25. This portion of the Fourmile Road, National Forest System Road 300, will be closed during the entire project.
The exact location of the culvert is 12.5 miles above the Sunlight Ski Area at the junction of Fourmile Road and West Divide Road (NFSR 800).
The culvert will restore unrestricted movement along the stream corridor for all aquatic species, including fish, salamanders, toads, and frogs. It is hoped that this will enhance and maintain populations of existing native and desired non-native vertebrate species.

Kids First attains Child Care Aware quality assurance
The Kids First program in Aspen received national recognition for its family services last week when it attained Child Care Aware quality assurance.
The Child Care Aware Consumer Education Quality Assurance Program is a national voluntary certification for child care resource a referral agencies.
Kids First’s referral specialists provide parents with information they need to make child care decisions. They also offer child care financial aid and other services.
Before being granted quality assurance, Kids First took part in a yearlong application process. Kids First was evaluated by a validation panel that reviewed its application and conducted a series of “secret shopper” calls and interviews of key staff.
