Basalt window shooter guilty

Aspen Daily News Staff Report

An 18-year-old man pleaded guilty to criminal mischief for his role in a two-week spree of shooting windows of cars and businesses in Basalt in April.

The district attorney’s office has recommended Matthew Gering be given a deferred judgment for the crime, meaning a conviction will not be entered against him if he stays out of trouble for an undetermined period of time.

The crime could possibly have landed Gering in jail for up to 12 years and fines of up to $500,000.
