Perhaps it’s a sign of the recession that is supposedly (not) over, but even the billionaires are having a hard time paying their bills.
Z.G. can only assume that it’s an oversight on the part of Russian billionaire and part-time resident Roman Abramovich, but he apparently has a $5,000 outstanding bill with Avon-based Vogelman West Associates, a masonry and stone contractor.
Typically when a bill goes unpaid, the debtor is notified and it’s taken care of. Not in this case. Vogelman filed a lien Tuesday in Pitkin County against Abramovich Roman Trailhead Property Management Inc. for $4,963.97
Filing a lien is a legal move on the part of the creditor but it usually doesn’t happen unless the demand for payment has been ignored for a quite a while.
It could be that one of the minions working for Abramovich just forgot to pay. There is really no other explanation for a man who bought one of the most expensive houses in the history of Pitkin County — $36 million in 2008 for the mansion on Wildcat Ridge, high above Snowmass Village.
