Howard Louis Hanson, Jr., of Hotchkiss passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction on Oct. 8, 2010. He was 86.
Howard was born in Stillwater, Minn. to Howard Louis and Margaret (Haggerty) Hanson. He married Eileen Rowland on Oct. 4, 1942, in Bayport, Minn. Howard was a captain and fighter pilot in the USMC in the South Pacific in 1943, 1944; captain and marine helicopter flight instructor, USMCR, South CA, 1950, 1951. He lived in the Roaring Fork Valley and North Fork Valley for 28 years.
Howard is preceded in death by his wife Eileen (Mitzi) Rowland Hanson, and daughter Kristina Hanson Archer.

He is survived by his sons, Hans Hanson of Beverly Hills, Mich., Lance Hanson, of Hotchkiss, Colo.; daughters Lisa Hanson Hurley of Centennial, Colo.; Heidi Hanson Bagus of Hotchkiss, Colo.; Nina Hanson Sisk of Denver, and 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Aspen, on Monday Oct. 18, 2010 at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Father Tom Bradke will officiate. A reception will take place after burial at St. Mary’s Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Delta County Hospice.
