OBITUARY — Orazio ‘Roz’ Vittorio Goffredo

Aspen Daily News Staff Report
Orazio “Roz” Vittorio Goffredo, 71, of Aspen, beloved friend, brother, uncle and cousin died on April 16, 2008, at 12:15 a.m. Orazio departed peacefully in Hospice Care after a long illness surrounded by family and close friends. Roz was born May 10, 1936, in Paterson, N.J., to Antonio and Graziella Goffredo. He grew up there the 10th of 14 children. He graduated from high school and continued his education to become a court stenographer. Roz served with honor in the U.S. Army signal corps in Maryland and spoke of that time often.

Roz moved to Aspen in the early 1960s and opened his business “Cut Loose Hair Studio” putting down roots in our community. For the next 45 years, he captured the hearts of many. Roz cherished his friendships and everyone who met him knew his enthusiasm for life.

Roz had a great passion for nature and was a tremendous photographer, wind surfer, skier, and hiker who loved riding his motorcycle and spending time in the desert.

Roz is survived by his brothers and sisters: Mrs. Tena Cantisano of Midland Park, N.J., Mrs. Anne Ashby of Lincoln Park, N.J., Mrs. Rita Schweighardt of St. Lucie, Fla., Mr. Joseph Goffredo of Lincoln Park, N.J., Mr. Anthony Goffredo of Boulder, Colo., Mr. Cosmo Goffredo of Venice, Calif., Mr. Lawrence Goffredo of Huntersville, N.C., Mr. William Goffredo of Boulder, Colo., and many, many more loving family members.

The family and friends would like to offer special thanks to Kristin McDermit of Pathfinders Valley Angels and the loving nurses of Aspen Valley Hospital past and present who provided such kindness and exceptional care. To Dr. Doug Rovira for never giving up. To his benefactors who gave so generously over the years to help Roz in a time of need. To everyone who reached out and touched his life during his journey. Most important to Roz was the extraordinary devotion and loyalty given by his friend Patricia for the last three years of his illness; she truly is an angel.

Cremation will take place at Farnum Holt Funeral Home in Glenwood Springs. Roz requested his ashes be scattered in Cedar Mesa, Utah.

The family and friends invite you to join them for a memorial on Monday, April 28, at 4 p.m. at Prince of Peace Chapel in Aspen. Everyone is encouraged to share their memories of Roz during the memorial. Please join us after the memorial for a social gathering at ZG Grill at the base of Aspen Highlands. My friend, I will miss you.

Thank you for your kindness

I want to thank all those who knew my uncle and that helped him in his time of need......I have lived in Alaska for 30 years and am raising a family, I could not attend Orazio's funeral. I would like to ask that someone put one single rose on the last place he was alive.....if possible. Thank you again for you compassion and kindness. God bless. Anthony Goffredo, P.O.
