Although the SkiCo had an operating plan in place and was hoping to open the mountain for spring skiing on the still-robust snowpack, a lack of capacity to pool enough staff to run the mountain for three days prevented the opening, SkiCo spokesman Jeff Hanle said. Full Story »
by Curtis Wackerle, Aspen Daily News Staff Writer Saturday, May 17, 2008 Aspen’s Holiday House, an affordable housing site for Aspen Skiing Co. employees on Hopkins Avenue that was nearly destroyed by a fire last fall, was demolished Friday, making way for a new structure that will be nearly identical to the old building, Aspen Skiing Co. officials said yesterday.
The new building will contain 25 housing units, one fewer than the structure gutted by fire in early November, but with the same footprint, SkiCo spokesman Jeff Hanle said. While the previous units were all two bedrooms, the SkiCo might make some of the apartments larger one bedrooms, potentially to “make it a little more livable,” Hanle said. Full Story »

by Curtis Wackerle, Aspen Daily News Staff Writer Saturday, May 17, 2008 The owner of Aspen Highlands eateries ZG Grill and Crust Pizza has settled his tax bill with the state, reclaiming the seized businesses and preventing an auction scheduled for next week to liquidate the assets.
The Colorado Department of Revenue seized ZG Grill and Crust on May 5, citing more than $26,000 in unpaid taxes. It also came to light that the restaurants owed the city of Aspen nearly $7,000 in unpaid sales taxes. Full Story »
