Just when I was about to write to applaud Sheldon Fingerman’s column about having fluoride crammed down our throats by an uninformed and gutless City Council, I happened upon Dr. Glenn’s letter, and that sent me off to the typewriter in disgust.
Several years ago I was curious about this controversial topic, so I did my homework and dug into the history and pluses and minuses of fluoridating our nation’s municipal water. What I found truly disgusted me, both with the way fluoride was sold to the nation in the first place, and (the fact that) it could possibly still be in use by a civilized people.
The real problem I have with this issue is not whether fluoride is good or bad for your teeth (my research says its effects are not good enough to put into your body or onto your teeth), but whether or not your city should be putting it into your water in the first place.
The stuff is very deadly poison. I don’t want this chemical put into my water anymore. If the people of Aspen have to vote to make this happen, so be it. It just shows that our leaders are just followers. In spite of what Dr. Glenn says, I applaud our municipal water department for standing up to this antiquated idea of putting poison in our water, and for trying to do the right thing for me and the rest of the people who drink Aspen’s water year round.
Sorry, Dr. Glenn, but your facts on fluoridation of municipal water are 40 years out of date. More than 30 countries worldwide have banned the use of this poison in their water, and Aspen is next.
